Man accused of assaulting 86-year-old woman during burglary appears in court

A MAN accused of assaulting of an 86-year-old woman in her Yardley home during a burglary has been remanded in custody.

Veronica Eustace was left with broken bones in her neck and back on Tuesday morning.

She is in a stable condition in hospital after sustaining serious injuries.

Nicholas Mason was arrested on Friday (June 8) at an address in East Park, Wolverhampton at around 9.35am.




Mason, 43, of no fixed address, appeared at Birmingham Magistrates Court on Monday (June 11).

He is accused of burglary with grievous bodily harm and an additional eight counts of burglary.


Mason is set to appear before Birmingham Crown Court on July 9.

Mason was discovered with a head injury on Friday and was taken to hospital.

There have been numerous crimes committed against elderly people in recent weeks – often taking place in their homes.
