Following the sentencing of Mr Paterson earlier today, Dame Caroline said: “The deplorable actions of former surgeon, Ian Paterson, have incurred a 15 year sentence through the courts.
“Whilst I welcome this decision on behalf of the victims, like the Royal College of Surgeons I want to see a full inquiry to establish why his misconduct went unchecked for so long and why those working closely with him did not seek to put a stop to it.
“I am pleased that the Health Secretary has committed to holding a full investigation if we are re-elected to Government, which would serve to benefit both the private and public sectors”.
