IAN Paterson is facing a lengthy jail sentence – possibly even life behind bars – after being found guilty of 17 counts of wounding with intent.
Rumours had been circulating that a sentence could have been passed down yesterday, shortly after the guilty verdict.
However, his fate is now set to be decided in May sometime.
The jury in his case were not told about the hundreds of other patients he treated and who have successfully claimed compensation against him.
The cases being considered at his Crown Court case referred to operations he carried out at Spire Parkway and Spire Little Aston hospitals.
His victims at Heart of England NHS Trust have successfully claimed around £10 million in compensation – money from the taxpayers’ pocket.
The Observer has featured the Paterson case from the very beginning – including damning reports that his illegal practices could have been stopped up to seven years before his negligent operations and practices were finally brought to an end.
