SOLIHULL Council could write-off over half a million pounds it is owed by residents and businesses.

The borough says £524,351 is ‘uncollectable’, over half of which is owed in rent.

Over the past year, £32.4 million was owed in rent, but the borough collected 97 per cent of this.

Additionally, £67,364 owed in council tax and £74,554 from business rates will be written off, if agreed by cabinet member for resources Coun Bob Sleigh.

Solihull council said that, at the end of December 2019, the overall council tax collection was around 86 per cent, slightly lower than at the same time last year.

It added: “Where companies are dissolved or have gone into administration and no payment is made or payment arrangements cease, writing off the debt is the only option we can take.”
