Outline plan for 700 new Shirley homes handed to Council

PLANS to build 700 new homes in Shirley have been handed to Solihull Council.

Taylor Wimpey has submitted an outline planning application for a sustainable new community south of Dog Kennel Lane, Shirley, which will incorporate extensive new parkland.

Developers say the Hares Croft development will deliver up to 700 new homes, with 40 per cent designated as affordable housing.

The proposals form part of a larger site allocated for a total of 1,100 homes in the now withdrawn draft Solihull Local.

As part of the proposed development developers have allocated space for a local centre and land for a new primary school.

Taylor Wimpey say sustainability is a key priority for the project, with features like energy-efficient building materials and electric vehicle charging points being utilised during the build process.

It added there will be a network of walking and cycling routes will connect homes to key facilities, encouraging residents to adopt more sustainable travel options within the local area.

The application comes after two community consultation exercises were undertaken in 2022 and last May.

In total, 143 local residents took the time to consider Taylor Wimpey’s proposals and share feedback.

A spokesperson for Taylor Wimpey said: “We are pleased to have now submitted an outline planning application to Solihull Council, which has been shaped by the feedback received from local residents and stakeholders.

“Our aim is to create a high-quality development centred around thoughtful landscaping and valuable infrastructure which the local community benefit from. We look forward to working with the council as the application progresses through the planning process.”
