ONE of the women who inspired the hit film and musical Caldendar Girls attended a charity dinner at Solihull School.
Knowle and Dorridge Tangent Club hosted a charity dinner with guest speaker Tricia Stewart, the original Miss October from the WI calendar, in support of the West Midlands Holly Trust.
The event, held at Solihull School on Warwick Road, was attended by more than 200 women and raised more than £6,250 for the trust, which is dedicated to fighting bowel cancer.
Retired radiographer Tricia was a member of the WI in the Yorkshire Dales and became friends with her neighbour Angela Baker. When Angela’s husband John sadly died as a result of non-Hodgkins Lymphoma she came up with the idea for the alternative naked WI calendar to raise funds in his memory.
Christine Elliott, who organised the evening, said: “We are absolutely delighted with the total, so much more than we could ever have anticipated. Thanks to all who joined us on the night and who donated so very generously. A special thanks to the men from our local 41 Club for their involvement and, of course, to Tricia for her time and entertainment!”
Ladies Tangent and 41 Club are part of the Round Table Family of clubs. Anyone who would like further information can contact Christine Elliott on [email protected] or visit tangent-clubs.org and hollytrust
