THE SWEET smell of orchids is set to return as Solihull and District Orchid Society celebrate its diamond anniversary.
And to get the occasion started the society will be hosting its Annual Spring Show at Bentley Heath Community Hall on Saturday (March 22).
As well as Solihull members displaying their own plants there will be displays from two other Midlands Orchid Societies.
A pair of orchid nurseries will be on hand for visitors to acquire a vast range of interesting orchids to add to their own collections.
From 11am until 4pm there will also be a tombola stall, a book stall and refreshments available throughout the day.
Throughout the year the society also meet up at St George and Teresa Parish Centre in Dorridge where guest speakers give informative talks on orchids from across the world providing information on their habitats and how they should be grown.
At each of the meetings there is a Display Table where members are able to enter their plants in one of three categories – Species, Hybrids and Windowsill grown plants.
All of these are judged by one of members, who is an accredited judge, with points being awarded for the quality of culture and flowers.
