SILHILLIANS are being called on to have their say on supported accommodation that is provided by a private landlord.
Solihull Council says it is creating a strategy that will help improve housing for residents, who access this type of accommodation.
This type of supported accommodation is commonly used by people who are homeless, may have suffered domestic abuse, receive mental health support or need support for substance mis-use.
It can also include those who are living in transitional accommodation (half-way house) after leaving prison.
The council is looking at the quality of the support provided as well as the quality of the accommodation supplied to help assess any future regulation or licensing that may be required.
As part of this process, the Council is keen to hear from our residents, particularly people who currently live in supported accommodation or who have done in the past.
Next year, residents will also have the chance to comment on the final strategy, before it is implemented.
Solihull Council’s cabinet member for Housing, Councillor Mark Parker, said: “Recent national legislation has given councils new duties to regulate and license the landlords who provide supported accommodation.
“Whilst we wait on further government guidance on its implementation, we are producing a strategy to help ensure that we have high quality supported accommodation that provides good value.
“We are asking people to help shape our strategy by taking part in our survey. This will provide the council with some very valuable information about people’s experiences of supported accommodation in Solihull.
“We would particularly like to hear from people who are living in, or have lived in, supported accommodation.”

The deadline to submit views is December 23.
