Off-road bikes seized in Solihull during operation

POLICE have been tackling issues caused by off-road bikes across Solihull.

Neighbourhood officers from Chelmsley Wood and our Smith’s Wood teams were joined by the West Midlands Police’s off-road bike team, as well as the Roads Policing Unit, Drones team, Guardian Taskforce and Safer Travel.

The joint operation saw the teams tackle the issues of illegal off-road bikes, who cause nuisance and commit crime across the borough.

Following the operation two bikes were seized, along with two riders being reported to the relevant authorities.

Inspector Jenny Willetts, from Solihull Police, said: “We’re listening to what our local residents have to say and this latest operation is just one way we’re targeting those causing issues in our communities.

“Over the last 12 months our teams have regularly carried out operations like this, seizing bikes and helping protect the public.

“The bikes are ridden illegally and in an anti-social way on footpaths and across open spaces, causing a serious safety risk.

“Our operations and patrols are carried out based on information we receive from the public about where and when this kind of behaviour happens.

“Our work targeting off-road bikes isn’t finished, and we will continue acting on information received from the public.”
