A NEW classroom has been opened at a Solihull school.

Sharmans Cross Junior School has created a Nurture classroom and Provision to create a calm, welcoming, and inclusive environment designed to support all pupils.

It was officially opened by the Mayor of Solihull, Councillor Annette Mackenzie.

The nurture classroom was thought up about bought to life by Charlotte Weatherstone, the school’s pastoral manager and has been designed to incorporate four distinct areas.

The first is a calming area, which promotes mindfulness and emotional regulation.

This space features resources that support breathing techniques and relaxation, alongside comfortable cushions and blankets to create a warm and inviting atmosphere.

The second area is a sensory space, with bubble lights, mood lighting, torches, and other visual sensory equipment designed to engage the senses and create a soothing environment.

The third area is an active space, fully equipped with a treadmill, exercise bike, wobble plate, peanut balls, and body boards.

Finally, the classroom includes both standing and seated workstations, allowing pupils to complete their learning in a calm and focused setting.

Miss Weatherstone said she hopes the opening of the nurture classroom will further strengthen the school’s commitment to inclusion and support, ensuring that every child at Sharmans Cross Junior School is empowered to shine like the stars they are.
