STEELHOUSE Lane, the notorious inner city lock-up that housed the likes of Fred West and the Peaky Blinders during its operational years, opens its doors to the public on Saturday, 17 June.
The prison, which first opened its cells in 1892, will open to the public just three times this summer as part of the Birmingham Hidden Spaces series and tickets, which go on sale this morning (Friday, June 2) are expected to be snapped up quickly.
A visit to the old Birmingham Central Lock-Up is certainly not one to be missed. It offers the unique chance to get an up close glimpse of the exceptional Victorian architecture and immerse in the historical importance of the building.
Victorian policing methods are demonstrated in the original features of the Grade II listed building and the lower deck houses pictures, artefacts and exhibits from the police museum.
Although some of the stories from the buildings past are certainly very dark and chilling, and there are rumours the old tunnel leading to the courts is haunted.
The open days are designed to be informational and are suitable for both adults and children.
