HISTORY students from Ninestiles Academy have been taking special lessons on the history of Queen Elizabeth II’s reign, writes Holly Clement.
The Acocks Green school will add this period to its core curriculum so the students can understand how The Queen shaped modern Britain.
Key stage 3 students will be looking into topics including empire and conquest, while year nine students will be learning about various influential rulers alongside the Queen and comparing and contrasting their leadership qualities.
Year eight students’ lessons will include learning about the birth of Britain’s constitutional monarchy and the role it plays alongside the government.
Students said they were impressed with the amount of money she raised for charity while others liked how she showed how Britain could help others less fortunate.
School principal Alex Hughes, said: “When we understand our history we begin to understand our present, and we really wanted our young people at Ninestiles to understand the full gravity of the Queen’s passing.”
