New retirement development in Shirley to be named after local actor

A NEW retirement development set to open in Shirley this year has been named after one of the region’s well-known actors.

Churchill Retirement Living has announced its new development on Stratford Road will be called Bower Lodge, in recognition of actor, Elizabeth Bower, who was educated in neighbouring Solihull.

Bernadette Hennelly, regional marketing manager at Churchill Retirement Living, said: “Wherever possible, we aim to name our developments with a local connection.

“Elizabeth Bower is a popular figure in the region, having attended both Langley School and The Sixth Form College.

“We are pleased to recognise Elizabeth by officially unveiling Bower Lodge as her namesake.”

Bower Lodge is due to launch in November and Churchill is anticipating a high level of enquiries following Birmingham’s role as host of the 2022 Commonwealth Games.

Bernadette added: “Quite rightly, the Commonwealth Games has shone a light on Birmingham and its surrounding towns, attracting visitors and positive attention from all over the world.

“Solihull is regularly voted one of the best places to live in Birmingham and earlier this year, Rightmove named Shirley as the top competitive hotspot in the UK, confirming the number of enquiries about homes for sale in the area has more than doubled.

“All this combined means we’re now expecting even more interest from potential purchasers, so we encourage house hunters not to delay, and ensure they register for more information about Bower Lodge as quickly as possible.”
