MERIDEN’s MP has been given a new government role.

Saqib Bhatti, has been made a minister in the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology in the government’s latest reshuffle.

The Conservative MP previously served as a Private Parliamentary Secretary (PPS) to the Secretary of State in the Department of Health and Social Care before resigning last July in the aftermath of the Chris Pincher scandal.

He was also appointed as the Business vice chair of the Conservative Party.

Writing on X (formally Twitter) Mr Bhatti said: “I am honoured to become a minister in the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology.

“As a nation, we are on the brink of huge innovation and I am so excited by the possibilities and opportunities that lie ahead for us.

“I am sad to be leaving my previous roles, working with my friend Simon Baynes as PPS to a great Secretary of State Lucy Frazer where there is so much great work happening.

“Also, serving on the Foreign Affairs Select Committee which I enjoyed with a passion and I look forward to watching the work of the Committee with Alicia Kearns

as it will be more relevant than ever before.

“Congratulations to our new chairman Richard Holden who will no doubt work tirelessly to bring the Conservative message to every corner of the country.

“I will bring all of these experiences, as well as everything from my business career to my new role and I look forward to supporting Michelle Donelan and the team.”
