A NEW memory cafe is set to open its doors in Solihull and welcome dementia patients and their loved ones.
The Solihull Memory Café will hold its first session on September 18, to coincide with World Alzheimer’s Day.
It will run every Thursday from 10:30am to 12:30pm in the function room at Solihull Indoor Bowls Club on Brick Kiln Lane.
The cafe is the latest community initiative from home care provider Unique Senior Care, building on the huge success of the Knowle and Dorridge Memory Café, which has grown from just seven attendees to more than 60 regular members since it opened last year.
The Solihull Memory Café is said to offer activities, from art, music and dancing to dementia-friendly exercise sessions and time to enjoy tea, cake, and conversation.
The café will also be a place to access practical help.
Visiting organisations such as the Alzheimer’s Society, Carers Trust, and Age UK will join sessions to offer advice, run workshops, and connect families with local services.
Karen Wilkinson, community liaison at Unique Senior Care, said: “The Knowle and Dorridge Memory Café has become a real highlight of the week for so many families – somewhere they can relax, have fun, and feel understood.
“We’re excited to bring the same warmth and welcome to Solihull, and to see the two cafés supporting our community together.”
Dementia affects around 900,000 people in the UK – a number that’s rising every year.
While medical support is vital, so too are the everyday opportunities to connect, chat, laugh, and take part in activities that make life feel that bit brighter.
The Solihull Memory Café is open to anyone living with memory challenges or dementia as well as their carers or family members.
The first session is free and then £3 per person.
