'New for old' hearing aid initiative launched at Solihull Hearing Centre

Solihull Editorial 8th Apr, 2024   0

A NEW service at a Solihull Hearing Centre is encouraging people to recycle and reuse old hearing aids to improve the lives of others across the world.

When customers bring in their old hearing aids to the Specsavers Hearing Centre at 21 Drury Lane, they will be sent to the Hearing Aid Recycling project that refurbishes and repurposes them for redistribution to developing communities around the world.

Those donating from April to the end of May will be given a £100 voucher to use when purchasing their next pair of hearing aids, bringing them essential technology at a much-reduced cost and helping to improve their hearing health.

The hearing aid amnesty works similarly to previous initiatives to recycle and reuse old specs instead of just throwing them away, as well as benefiting those with reduced access to hearing aid technology.

Solihull Specsavers audiology director Nilam Yaqoob said: “At Specsavers, we are committed to creating positive impacts and this service allows us to support both the environment and wider communities.

“Through our Hearing Aid Recycling initiative, we can not only provide local customers with the latest hearing aid technology, but also contribute to a significant cause.

Hearing aids can be brought into the store any time from the start of April to the end of May 2024.

The collected devices will then be sent to Hearing Aid Recycling, where they will be refurbished and repurposed to benefit individuals in need in other countries.

Nilam added: “We are delighted to be working with Hearing Aid Recycling to ensure that these devices find new life and make meaningful impacts in the lives of deserving individuals.

“Our hope is that this campaign will prompt an important conversation about hearing health while also supporting sustainable practices.”
