AN 80-bed care home is set to be built in Solihull’s Blythe Valley Park.
Detailed plans submitted by Octopus Healthcare were given the go-ahead at a Solihull Council planning committee meeting on August 7.
They were approved subject to an extensive list of conditions, and will form part of the wider Blythe Valley Park scheme – which includes 750 homes.
The three-storey care home hopes to occupy a space known as Parcel L, one of several earmarked for development.
Plans include a cafe in the care home entrance, which will be open to the public and residents.
There would also be a 32-space car park and a day room for residents where they will dine and activities will be hosted.
The new facility is expected to create 40 full-time jobs.
Developer Octopus Real Estate’s Ashley Heath said: “We are delighted to receive approval.
“The site benefits from being opposite the proposed new neighbourhood centre and has extensive landscaping and facilities.
“Its proximity to the amenities of Solihull, in conjunction to the expanding facilities at Blythe Valley Park, will create the ideal environment for a care home ensuring comfortable surroundings for both residents and their families.”
It was passed despite Hockley Heath Parish Council’s calls for traffic assessments – in particular the impact on the A3400 through Hockley Heath and School Road.
Some of the other conditions that planning approval hinged on include cycle provision, a green travel plan, the approval of a surface water run-off scheme, an agreed environmental plan as well as a commitment to replacing trees and hedges – among other things.
