National Express West Midlands raises thousands for Birmingham Children’s Hospital

KIND-HEARTED workers at National Express West Midlands handed almost £2,000 to Birmingham Children’s Hospital Charity.

The bus operator’s Birmingham Central garage, which has over 700 employees, selected the Hospital as its community partner and is focusing its charitable efforts on raising as much money as possible for the charity.

Staff and drivers at the garage organised various events to raise awareness and funds for the charity, including fun runs and a family and friends fancy dress party for colleagues and members of the public.

But perhaps the biggest event so far was the bespoke 666 zombie bus which completed a loop around Birmingham at Halloween. Customers hopped on the BrumZombieBus for free in exchange for a small donation towards the charity.

Jenny Tocknell, Operations Manager at National Express West Midlands, said: “Many colleagues across our business have children who have received the very best treatment and care at Birmingham Children’s Hospital so we’re delighted to be able to support the charity.

“The hospital looks after thousands of children not just locally but from across the UK and we’re very proud to have been able to raise funds through our community partnership. We’re looking forward to continuing our work supporting Birmingham Children’s Hospital Charity this year.”

Kirsty White, Corporate Partnerships Officer at Birmingham Children’s Hospital Charity, said everyone at the hospital were incredibly grateful to National Express West Midlands for all its support.

She added: “The money raised will go a long way to making a huge difference to the lives of our brave children and their families, as we continue our plans to improve our facilities – enabling us to treat even more children from Birmingham, the West Midlands and around the country.”
