Mum calls for ban on fireworks across Solihull and Sheldon

A MUM is calling for fireworks to be banned across Sheldon, Solihull, and the surrounding areas.

Rebecca Tracey has set up a petition urging Solihull Council and Birmingham City Council to prevent fireworks from being set off during nighttime hours to ensure the safety and well-being of young children, pets, and all community residents.

This comes following disruption to her, her two young children and her puppies sleep by ‘fireworks going off at 1am or 2am every night’.

She said: “Fireworks might bring joy to some people for a fleeting moment, but for families with young children, pets, and those who need to sleep early to be productive the next day, these are sources of stress and anxiety.

“Not to mention, the loud noises can be traumatic for animals and significantly disturb their well-being.

“According to reputable sources, sudden loud noises can increase anxiety levels in pets, leading to destructive behavior and health issues.”

In her petition Rebecca highlighted the fire hazard posed, especially when unsupervised and occurring in residential neighborhoods with close proximity to homes.

In her petition Rebecca said: “By implementing this ban, we can reclaim the peace of our nights without depriving people of celebration; alternative means such as silent fireworks or organized events at a controlled distance can be used during celebrations.

“Join us in making a change for a more peaceful community where all residents feel safe and secure in their own homes.

“Let’s work together to create a calmer and safer environment for everyone, especially for our children and pets.”
