SOLIHULL’S young engineers showcased their work to an MP.
Nicola Richards MP for West Bromwich East visited WMG Academy Solihull to find out about the University Technical College (UTC) movement and the new Post-16 T-level qualifications.
During her visit Ms Richards met members of Team Phoenix, who returned as winners of the Honorary Prize from the international competition held in Granada, Spain run by the European Space Agency.
WMG Academy said: “The students presented their CanSat, which is a simulation of a real satellite, integrated within the volume and shape of a soft drink can.
“The team’s challenge was to fit all the major subsystems of a satellite inside this minimal volume and then launch it via a small rocket up to an altitude of one kilometre.”
The Conservative MP also toured the academy with students and visited practical lessons in both Science and Engineering.
