MP stands for re-election as committee chair

BIRMINGHAM Hodge Hill and Solihull North MP, Liam Byrne has announced he is standing for re-election as chair of the Business and Trade Select Committee.

Highlighting his longstanding history of working cross-party to achieve results, Mr Byrne, said: “I was elected Chair of the Business and Trade Committee to follow on from both Rachel Reeves and Darren Jones in the last parliament and, in a few short months, by working closely with business, trade unions and colleagues across the House, we ensured the Committee made a real impact.

“We made crucial progress on the detailed work needed for mission-driven industrial policy, investment security and better trade with key allies like the EU and US.”

During his last term the committee held firms such as P&O, Wilko, McDonald’s and Asda to account and corporate bad behaviour was exposed.

The Labour MP added: “The Business and Trade Select Committee is absolutely key to ensuring the Government delivers on its core mission for growth, so it is vital that the Committee hits the ground running.

“I am incredibly grateful for the support already expressed by hundreds of MPs who clearly liked the robust approach we took in the last parliament.”
