TO MARK International Women’s Day, Meriden MP Saqib Bhatti is celebrating the contributions made by the incredible women across

his constituency with special thanks given to Solihull’s director of public health, Ruth Tennant.

Ruth is one of the many women who have played an integral role in the community by leading the local response to Covid-19 for residents in Solihull Borough.

Nationally women have led the way in the battle against the pandemic, from Kate Bingham who heads up the vaccine rollout, to Dr Jenny Harries, the deputy chief medical officer just some of the thousands of women, including copuntless community heroes, who have become amazing role models for the next generation of women and girls across the country.

Mr Bhatti said that in support of women in the workplace, the Government has put in place a £160billion package to minimise the economic downturn and to protect, support and create as many jobs as possible.

In addition, funding for domestic abuse services has been increased in a bid to protect families and vulnerable women across the country, including Solihull.

Commenting on the role women have played in battling the virus, Mr Bhattti said: “This International Women’s Day gives us an opportunity to say thank you to the women across our community who have played an incredibly important part in the response to Covid-19 – from NHS workers to those caring for loved ones and others in the community.

“I would like to say a special thanks to Ruth Tennant who has led our local response to Covid within the Solihull Borough.

“Her commitment to supporting residents has been admirable and this International Women’s Day, I want to commend her leadership.

“Without the hard work of Ruth and others, from healthcare heroes to community champions, fighting coronavirus would not have been possible.

“Women across Meriden have done incredible work in the most challenging of times.”
