A SOLIHULL servicing and MOT garage are hosting a car crime prevention day at their centre next weekend.

The event is organised by the community panel for ‘Vehicle Crime Prevention’ led by West Midlands Police, it is a part of an initiative to help raise public awareness about vehicle crime

From 10am until 1pm on November 5, the public are invited to MotorServ UK’s Sales and Media Centre at Monskpath Business Park, to meet officers in person from the police traffic, police dog and drone units to discuss safety tips and proactive measures that can be implemented – both individually and within the wider community.

Vehicle safety product demonstrations will be given by valued partners such as GSF Car Parts, Euro Car Parts, Disklok, Toolstation and Selectamark – with over 200 security marking kits readily available for application on the day.

Informative talks will also illustrate how ‘relay’ theft occurs, how anti-theft faraday key pouches can be vital and how thieves are using blockers to prevent cars from locking in public spaces.

Sgt Mark Heard of West Midlands Police said: “We continue to experience theft of and from vehicles across the Solihull Borough and in addition to our operational response we are constantly looking for ways to help reduce this and other crimes.

“We are delighted that Motorserv UK is working with us and other businesses and community leaders, as a part of newly established proactive Crime Reduction Panel.”

MotorServ UK’s managing director Kamran Saleem adds: “Due to a large number of high-value vehicles in the area, Solihull is sadly prone to high car crime rates so as an automotive business, we see it as part of our public service and duty of care to our customers, that we partake in driving greater awareness of the issue.

“As a former Special Constable with the West Midlands Police myself, I have seen first-hand the devastating and costly impact that car crime has on individuals so I’m passionate about prevention and supporting the Solihull community.”
