More money to help hard-up Solihull families through summer

Solihull Editorial 26th Jun, 2021   0

FAMILIES in Solihull will receive extra support with food and key utility bills worth £532,554 thanks to the final extension of the Government’s Covid Grant support.

The Covid Local Support Grant, first introduced in December 2020, has been extended through to September bringing it in line with the end date for furlough and other Covid-related support.

With a new round of funding, councils will be able to continue this support and adapt their offer to suit the needs of families.

Those who are in need of support should contact Solihull borough Council to find out what support will be available over the coming months.

The extra cash for Solihull comes in addition to the £895,688.55 previously received bringing the investment to a total of £1,428,242.55

To date, the grant has distributed more than £27million to regional councils since it was introduced in December 2020 to create new programmes of support tailored to people’s needs in their area.

The funding is ring-fenced so that 80 per cent is used to support families with bills for food, key utilities and other essentials.

The Covid Local Support Grant is in addition to the £220m Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) programme, which has been scaled up to cover the whole of England across the major school holidays in 2021 – including this summer.

The HAF aims to provide disadvantaged children across the country with healthy meals and enriching activities.

Solihull Council can be contacted at https://www.solihull.gov.uk/ or call: 0121 704 8001.
