SOLIHULL Council could earmark six acres in the borough for housing developments, under a review of brownfield land available.
Land used for previous development, know as brownfield, is preferred by the government to reach its house building targets.
The council is completing a review of brownfield sites, and it has added 18 sites to its brownfield register, which could provide 643 homes in Solihull.
In total, 34 sites will be removed from the register, due to unsuitability or planning permission already being granted.
The brownfield register in Solihull currently includes 82 sites, creating a capacity of between 2026 and 2875 houses.
It is the second time planning officers have looked into the brownfield land available, and a total of 44 new sites have also been promoted for inclusion in the council’s Local Plan Review.
Sites already lined up include the National Motorcycle Museum, for 125 houses, Mell Square shopping centre, which could have 200 homes, and the NEC car parks, for up to 600 houses.
Land at Silver Trees Farm, near Ye Olde Saracens Head in Balsall Common, and a house on Lugtrout Lane, Knowle, will be added to the list.
Councillors on the planning committee will discuss the brownfield register at a meeting this Thursday (November 28).
