Mighty Compton Organ ready to be fired up

Solihull Editorial 31st May, 2023   0

THE MIGHTY Compton pipe organ will be in action again this weekend.

At the keys will be Michael Wooldridge for a live concert on Sunday (June 4) at Fentham Hall, Marsh Lane in Hampton in Arden.

Doors open at 1.30pm, with curtain up at 2.30pm. Admission £10 cash on the door, including interval refreshments and parking.

Michael was mentored by theatre organist Bobby Pagan, who taught him not only about how to play the organ but also about how to write orchestral arrangements and to conduct.

He launched his career in 1980, at the age of fifteen, by winning the American Theatre Organ Society (ATOS) UK Young Theatre Organist of the Year Competition playing the Wurlitzer at the Granada Cinema in Kingston-Upon-Thames, and then, in 1984, was honoured to receive the coveted Ian Sutherland Memorial Award from the Cinema Organ Society.
