VOLUNTEERS rolled their sleeves up and gave Meriden Park a spring clean at a litter picking event.

A team of employees from from the Appliance Recycling Group joined forces with Love Solihull and REPIC to give the park a tidy up.

The team collected 39 bags of litter at the Chelmsley Wood park during the event which was organised to coincide with Keep Britain Tidy’s Great British Spring Clean which runs until April 10.

REPIC, collects, treats and responsibly recycles waste household electrical goods on behalf of manufacturers.

It works in partnership with Solihull Council to collect and manage waste electricals on its behalf, working alongside The Appliance Recycling Group to reuse as many appliances as possible.

Love Solihull, an environmental initiative co-ordinated by Solihull Council that supports members in making a real difference in their local community, provided the equipment for the team to use on the day.

Louise Grantham, chief executive at REPIC said: “It’s great to be able to have the opportunity to do our bit for our local environment by helping to keep our parks clean.

“In just a few hours, the team had gathered up a lot of litter.

“It does show that you don’t need much time to make a difference.

“By everybody working together to create a cleaner environment, we can build stronger, healthier communities and make a positive difference.”
