RETIRED Greyhounds lent a paw and help raise funds for an Elmdon charity.
Volunteers and some of the dogs from Daybreaks Trust Greyhound Rescue and Rehoming Charity were at the kennels to show how much love these four-legged friends have to give despite being deemed as ‘past their best’ by some.
They raised just over £1,000 on the day and funds will be used for the daily care of the dogs in the kennels, from feeding to grooming and veterinary care bills.
They were joined by Saqib Bhatti, Meriden and Solihull East MP, who is calling on residents to dig deep to help provide as much support to the Trust as possible, through donations of jumpers/coats, blankets, duvets or through financial means.
He also met with Luci Foulkes, who took over as manager at the charity after founder Ruth Price bid farewell last year.
He also met with Cath Locke as chair of the board of trustees, along with a dedicated team of exceptional staff and volunteers.
Mr Bhatti said: “I would like to thank Cath and the team for allowing me the opportunity to meet with them and to take a tour around their fantastic Kennels facility. The kindness and love shown by the staff at the trust is truly second to none and their compassion and care clearly shows no bounds.
“The treatment of animals has always been a cause close to my heart and it was certainly eye opening to hear some of the harrowing stories from Cath and the team about the way some of these beautiful animals are treated. I am delighted that because of the fundraising day on Sunday, the team managed to raise over £1,000
“I would like to encourage as many people as possible to lend their support to this amazing charity. As we have seen highlighted before through television programmes, such as Paul O’Grady’s a love for dogs, the tireless work being done by the volunteers at kennels such as the Daybreak Trust, is vital. If you are able, please do support the trust in any way you can.”
Daybreaks kennels were established on in 2006 and in that time, Daybreaks has found over 3,400 loving homes for ex-racing Greyhounds.
It was inspired by Ruth’s first adoption of her first dog Tara, leading her to find a new perspective in adopting dogs and inspired her to create change. Initially she used her home to rescue greyhounds.
