A PAIR of men have been jailed after police recovered three guns from a car which had been stopped as its driver tried to flee from armed police.

Last January Adam Sajjad was spotted by officers handing a bag from a Ford Fiesta to his cousin Sikander Farooq, who was sat in a dark blue Audi S3 which was also parked on Wychbold Crescent in Shard End.

Farooq drove away from the scene and was intercepted by firearms officers on Flaxley Road, Stechford.

Farooq was detained after being tasered.

The car was examined and in a Mickey Mouse bag, officers found more bags containing a Smith & Wesson revolver, loaded with three rounds, a Beretta sawn-off shotgun and a Walther pistol with 9 rounds of ammunition.

Four shotgun shells and two other bullets were also found.

Farooq, aged 29, of Fellbrook Close, Stechford, and Sajjad, 19, of Wychbold Crescent, Shard End, admitted possession of firearms and ammunition and were jailed for five years.

Supt Ryan Chambers, from West Midlands Police’s Major Crime Proactive Team, said: “To take three live guns off the streets of the West Midlands in one go is rare, but a great result.

“These guns could have caused death, injury and untold damage to communities in the West Midlands, and their removal, and the jailing of the two men who were handling them, has made the region safer.”

Anyone with information on those involved in gun crime should contact police on 101 or via Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
