TWO men have been charged with murder and conspiracy to rob following the death of an 83-year-old in Hall Green.

West Midlands Police said Neil O’Donnell was approached by a man who demanded his watch and phone before allegedly assaulting him, on Cateswell Road, at around 2.30pm on May 14.

The man fled empty-handed, but Mr O’Donnell suffered an arm injury and was taken to hospital for treatment and later discharged.

He was re-admitted to hospital on May 17, and died on May 21.

Wesley McDonnell, 46, and Tony Griffin, 54, were arrested the following day.

Det Insp Nigel Box, leading the investigation, said: “Our thoughts are with Mr O’Donnell’s family today, and we are continuing to offer them all the support we can.

“They have asked for their privacy to be respected as they come to terms with their loss.”
