Age UK Solihull has been selected as one of the Mayor of Solihull’s official charities for 2026-27 following a special announcement made during the organisation’s recent volunteer celebration event.
The recently elected Mayor of Solihull, Councillor Sardul Singh Marwa, and Mayoress, Satnam Kaur Marwa, attended the gathering at the Land Rover Sports and Social Club, where the Mayor revealed that Age UK Solihull would be among the charities he will support during his year in office.
The event was organised to recognise the contribution of the charity’s volunteers, whose efforts help Age UK Solihull support more than 7,000 residents across the borough each year.
Volunteers were treated to a buffet, a raffle and the opportunity to meet fellow volunteers, while long-service awards were also presented to those reaching significant milestones. Among those recognised was volunteer Jean, who has dedicated 25 years of service to the charity.
During the event, the Mayor met volunteers and staff and praised their commitment to supporting older people in the community.
He said:
“Age UK Solihull is a local charity that provides vital support to people across our community, helping reduce isolation, improve wellbeing, and ensuring that people feel connected and supported.
“None of this would be possible without the commitment of their volunteers. Whether they have been with the charity for one, five or twenty-five years, their dedication and generosity are an inspiration to us all.
“I’d like to wish Age UK Solihull continued success, and I am honoured to be able to support the charity during my year in office.”
Age UK Solihull works to improve the quality of life of older people across the borough through a range of services, including information and advice, befriending support, technology guidance and assistance with debt and financial issues.
The charity also organises regular social activities at venues across Solihull, giving older residents opportunities to meet others in their community and engage with volunteers.
Chief executive Anne Hastings welcomed the Mayor’s decision to support the organisation.
She said:
“We’re absolutely over the moon, it was such good news when we found out the new Mayor had chosen to support us. It will make an invaluable difference to our charity fundraising and the publicity we’ll gain over the Mayor’s year in office.”
Age UK Solihull said it is looking forward to working closely with the Mayor throughout the coming year while continuing to support older residents across the borough.
