Mayor and Mayoress show their support for Troop Aid

Solihull Editorial 16th May, 2017   0

SOLIHULL Mayor Mike Robinson and Mayoress Jenny showed their support for Troop Aid with a visit to the charity’s Solihull HQ.

They were given a conducted tour of the warehouse where the famous Grab Bags containing basic essentials are packed.

The Grab Bags are then dispatched to military bases around the world where they are issued to service personnel injured either in combat or training.

Last year the charity dispatched 1,300 Grab Bags to support injured troops in Canada, Kenya, Somalia, South Sudan, Brunei, Nepal, Afghanistan, Cyprus, Northern Ireland, Catterick, Edinburgh, Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham, Brecon Beacons and Manchester DMWS.

Since Troop Aid was formed 11 years ago it has donated 13,000 Grab Bags to support our injured service personnel.

Mayor Robinson said: “The Mayoress and I have been greatly impressed by the hard work and commitment of volunteers at our locally based charity, Troop Aid.

“When our troops are injured they are invariably a long way from home and getting them medical attention is the priority. So, the Grab Bag they each receive from Troop Aid is an invaluable source of basic essentials at a very traumatic time in their lives.”

Al Sutton, Chairman and Co-Founder of Troop Aid added: “We are very pleased that the Mayor and Mayoress have supported Troop Aid on a number of occasions during their year in office.

“So, it was great that they found time in their busy schedule to visit the headquarters before handing over the reigns, to see for themselves how Troop Aid supports our injured troops.”

A registered charity, Troop Aid’s patron is HRH The Prince of Wales.

It is funded by donations and receives no government support.
