MASKED men ram raided a Co-op supermarket in Solihull and threatened staff with a crowbar.
Residents who lived above the store saw the events unfold and speak of the robbers trying and failing to steal a cash machine.
A West Midlands Police spokesperson said: “Police are investigating an attempted robbery at a Co-Op store in The Parade, Kingshurst, at 6.30pm yesterday (February 27).
“Three masked men, one of which was armed with a crow bar, attempted to ram raid the store.
“They then threatened a member of staff for money. They were unsuccessful and fled empty handed in a silver van.”
A resident living above the store Rachael Barker said: “They went in with crowbar an threatened the staff then put tried to get the cash machine out.”
Kingshurst councillor David Cole said the doors and the side window were smashed and a bollard was cut out.
