A MARSTON GREEN schoolgirl won a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to take part in a swimming lesson delivered by four-time Olympic medallist Becky Adlington.
Isabella Collins came out on top in a nationwide competition to design a banner as part of Swim England’s national Big School Swim campaign, which is supported by Everyone Active and the former Olympian.
As a reward for her creativity the eight-year-old and her classmates were given the chance to make a splash at North Solihull Leisure Centre during a lesson delivered by the Olympian.
Becky said: “We received so many exceptional entries to the competition, but Isabella’s really stood out.
“It was so much fun to join her and the other children from Marston Green Junior School for a swimming lesson in the fantastic pool at North Solihull Leisure Centre.”
Everyone Active works with Becky Adlington SwimStars to promote the importance of school swimming lessons.
Lynn Clark, headteacher at the Station Road school in Marston Green, said: “We are so proud of Isabella and it has been such an amazing experience for both her and her classmates.
“We consider ourselves a school who embark in a wide range of competitive sporting opportunities for our pupils so for our pupils to spend time with such an inspirational Olympian like Becky was a wonderful and memorable day for us all.”
Jacqui Tillman, group swim manager at Everyone Active said: “We are delighted to be teamed up with Becky Adlington SwimStars to deliver school swimming lessons.
“Being able to learn from such a decorated Olympian was a great opportunity for all the children, and it was fantastic to see them having such a great time in the pool.”
