Marie Curie marathon man ready to take on London

A FORMER Tudor Grange School pupil and podcast presenter has set himself an epic challenge to run six World Marathon Majors in the next three years.

Dan Hudson, the presenter of A Gay and a Non-Gay and comedian is taking part in the iconic London Marathon on Sunday (April 21) followed by the New York City Marathon in November in aid of Marie Curie.

The charity has a special place in the 37-ear-old’s heart as his mum Gill was cared for and died in the Solihull Hospice in March 2022.

Dan, from Solihull, said: “My mum was diagnosed with terminal cancer at the end of 2018, and she stayed in remarkably good nick for the best part of three years but then at the tail end of 2021 she started going downhill quite rapidly and by March 2022 it was looking towards the end.

“She spent the last week of her life in the Marie Curie Hospice in Solihull. The nurses there did an incredible job looking after her.

“The attention you get in Marie Curie is just so much better than the usual hospital ward. 24 hours a day you can have access to a nurse. They are there for you and your loved one day and night.

“I ran the Shakespeare Marathon in Stratford-upon-Avon a month after she died, and I fell in love with the idea of running marathons again.

“I will be taking on six marathons in the next three years. London this weekend, New York in November, then Boston and Chicago Marathon in 2025 followed by Tokyo and Berlin in 2026.

“I am hoping to raise as much awareness and money as possible for Marie Curie so they can continue to support people with any illness they are likely to die from and their families.”

Marie Curie is dependent on public donations and last year supporters helped the charity provide direct care to more than 44,200 people across the UK at its nine hospices and through overnight nursing care in people’s own homes.
