Marie Curie Hospice's garden in full bloom ready to welcome visitors

THE STUNNING gardens at the Marie Curie Hospice in Solihull will be open for all as part of the National Garden Scheme.

From 11am until 4pm on June 20 visitors will be able to walk around the gardens at the Marsh Lane hospice, buy something for their own garden from the plant stall and try their luck at the tombola.

There will be refreshments available and free activities for children.

The gardens at the hospice are maintained and cared for by a dedicated group of volunteer gardeners.

Head gardener, Do Connolly, said: “The patient rooms at the hospice are all arranged around the gardens giving easy access to both patients and their families.

“The gardens are such an important part of the hospice, and our team of volunteers work hard throughout the year to ensure they look beautiful and full of colour.

“It provides a peaceful space for our patients, families, staff, and volunteers to enjoy.”

This year marks 30 years of Marie Curie’s partnership with National Garden Scheme, which has raised more than £12million to support people at the end of life.

Community fundraiser, Leela Doherty said: “Partnerships like the one we have with National Garden Scheme help us to raise vital funds, so that Marie Curie can provide expert care for anyone with an illness they’re likely to die from.

“Today, almost one in three people don’t get the care and support they need at the end of life. Living with a terminal illness is a rollercoaster of practical needs and emotions. For people experiencing dying, death, or bereavement, there’s no guarantee that services available to them can meet all their needs 24/7 or that they will be supported emotionally to cope.”
