A MAN who assaulted a woman as she walked down an alleyway in Chelmsley Wood has been jailed.

Craig Green followed the young woman as she walked to her parents’ home on November 24.

As the 21-year-old was walking, she felt uneasy when she kept seeing Green along her route.

As she walked towards Newby Grove she heard footsteps and as she turned around, Green gabbed her neck with both hands. Fortunately she managed to run off.

After reporting the incident to West Midlands Police, the next day, Green was spotted in the area again and he was arrested.

During his interview 34-year-old claimed it was mistaken identity and denied being in the area.

But Green was picked out of an identity parade.

He was charged with assault and appeared at Birmingham Magistrates Court on November 30 where he pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 18 weeks in prison.

Detective Sergeant Lawrence Shannon from Force CID, said: “Green left this young woman shaken and terrified when she should have felt comfortable enough and safe to walk down the street.

“We quickly identified Green as the person responsible for the assault and within days he was dealt with and put behind bars.”
