Man sought following 'racially motivated' assault

Solihull Editorial 30th Jun, 2017   0

BRITISH Transport Police want to speak to this man after a passenger was punched in what is thought to be a racially motivated assault on a train in Birmingham.

The victim, a 24-year-old man, was travelling between Birmingham New Street and Birmingham International at around 8pm on June 2 when a man sat opposite him began to insult him and other passengers.

The abusive man then punched the victim in the face and made a racist comment, before getting off the train at Birmingham International.

PC Piotr Gass said: “We absolutely will not tolerate any level of violence or hate crime, and we take all reports of such offences extremely seriously.

“Our enquiries have uncovered an image of a man we’d like to identify in connection with this incident, and I’d urge anyone who knows him to contact us.”

Anyone with information should call British Transport Police on 0800 405040 or text 61016 with reference 146 of 03/06/17.

Alternatively, details can be passed anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
