A MAN has been jailed after attempting to rape a teenager in a Solihull park.
Dago Williams struck up conversation with a group of teenagers on a bus towards Chelmsley Wood in June.
West Midlands Police said the 22-year-old got off the bus with the group and stole cans of alcoholic drinks from a supermarket which he offered to the group.
He then tried to kiss one of the girls from the group, a 17-year-old, in Meriden Park.
She refused and he then sexually assaulted and attempted to rape the girl.
When the girl managed to stand up Williams then punched and hit her face.
Police said he strangled her, causing her to fall to the floor and threw her bag into the bushes nearby as the girl managed to run away.
She was able to scream and shout for help and ran to a friend’s house and called police.
Officers were able to identify Williams through a detailed description and his Snapchat username he gave to the girl.
He was then arrested and charged with attempted rape, sexual assault, intentional strangulation, assault and shop theft.
Williams of Hampton Road, Erdington admitted all offences at an earlier hearing and was sentenced to nine years and six months at Birmingham Crown Court.
DC Kevin Shaw, Child Abuse Investigation Team, said: “This was a horrific incident that will have a significant and profound impact on the girl for many years to come.
“I want to commend her for calling for help and reporting the incident to the police.
“Williams is clearly a risk to women and girls and we’re pleased to see he is now behind bars.”
