A MAN died after a collision involving a police car and a pedestrian in Acocks Green last night.

It happened on Yardley Road, near the junction with Florence Road, just before 7pm.

The pedestrian, a man aged 40, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The marked police vehicle was responding to a 999 call relating to a report of a man carrying knives on Warwick Road in Acocks Green at the time of the collision.

West Midlands Ambulance Service was called by police and sent two ambulances, two paramedic officers and a BASICS emergency doctor to the scene.

The pedestrian was being cared for by police when medics got there and ambulance staff quickly took over and administers advanced life support and trauma care.

Unfortunately, despite their best efforts it became clear that nothing more could be done to save him and he was confirmed deceased at the scene.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: “No further patients required treatment.”

The family of the man who died is being supported, and West Midlands Police are liaising with the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC).

The two officers in the vehicle were not hurt.

Anyone with information, including dashcam or other footage, has been urged to get in touch with officers on 101 or via Live Chat at westmidlands.police.uk

Other officers attended the report of the man with the knives, but there was no sign of any disorder on arrival.
