Man charged with string of rapes in late 1990s

A MAN has been charged with a series of rapes, including ones in Selly Oak and Yardley, in the late 1990s.

Phillip Blackwell, 55, of Western Road, Launceston, Cornwall, was arrested on Wednesday ( January 22) and was charged this morning with four counts of rape, an attempted rape and an indecent assault.

It follows a joint investigation between Warwickshire and West Midlands Police. Warwickshire Police charged the 55-year-old with theoffences which took place in Nuneaton and Birmingham in the late 1990s.

He will appear at Leamington Magistrates’ Court tomorrow (Monday).




The charges include the rape of a woman in Yardley on February 9 1997, and the rape of a woman in Selly Oak on October 22 of the same year.

They also relate to the rape of two women in Weddington, Nuneaton on May 30 1998, an attempted rape of a woman in Frankley, Birmingham, on February 3 1998, and the indecent assault of a woman in Bournville on December 21 1997.
