Man charged with murder after woman dies from fire injuries

A MAN has been charged with the murder after a woman died in a flat fire in Acocks Green.

Nazia Akhtar, aged 31, suffered from extensive burns during the blaze at the flat in Fox Hollies Road in April.

She died of her injuries on Thursday (June 11).

A post mortem will be carried out in due course.




Muhammad Hammad, aged 30 of Fox Hollies Road, was arrested on the same day on suspicion of attempted murder was charged with murder on Friday night and appeared before Birmingham Magistrates with the charge.

The fire – being treated as arson by West Midlands Police – happened on the night of April 25 and also left a 30-year-old man with burn injuries.
