A MAN has been charged with murder following the death of a pedestrian in a hit and run in Solihull.

Steven Day was hit by a VW Golf in Warwick Road, Olton, on July 16 last year.

The 46-year-old was confirmed dead at the scene.

A 39-year-old old man was arrested on suspicion of murder earlier this year and bailed while enquiries continued.

Detectives have now charged David Humfrey, of Lower Moor, Bournville, over the death of Mr Day.

He appeared before Birmingham Magistrates Court today (September 19).

He was remanded in custody to appear at Birmingham Crown Court on Monday (September 23).

Detective Inspector Stuart Mobberley, from the force’s homicide team, said: “This is a significant step forward in this long-running investigation.

“However, enquiries continue and we are still keen to speak to anyone who may have information which can assist us.”

Anyone with information is urged to call 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
