PUPILS at Lyndon School celebrated their favourite books, authors, and characters as part of World Book Day.
This year’s theme – Read Your Way – encouraged children to explore reading in their own way, making it a fun and personal experience.
In preparation for the big day, learners were encouraged to donate any preloved and unwanted books to the school library, where they could swap their books with others. This book exchange initiative fosters a sense of community while promoting the joy of reading.
To add to the excitement, the English department dressed up as characters from the books they teach.
Year 7 and 8 learners also had the chance to learn about renowned author Tom Palmer.
This engaging session will offer an exciting preview of Palmer’s writing and storytelling techniques.
As part of the celebrations, all learners received a digital book token to purchase a £1 book, helping to make reading even more accessible.
The fun didn’t stop there – in tutor time, learners took part in The Masked Reader, where staff members read from their favourite books while disguised, and learners had to guess both the staff member and the book.
In addition to all of the fun activities, the school’s dining room was transformed to reflect the literary theme, with food inspired by famous stories available for students to enjoy throughout the day.
Head of school, Syreeta Kapswara said: “World Book Day is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the power of stories and the joy of reading.
“By offering events such as book swaps, dressing up as beloved literary characters, and engaging with authors, we hope to inspire our learners and encourage them to explore new worlds through books.”
World Book Day is a charity working to promote reading for pleasure and ensure every child has access to books.
This year’s celebrations aimed to break down the perception that reading is a chore and instead highlighted how reading can be an enjoyable, social, and rewarding experience.
