A LONG-DISTANCE lorry driver who sexually abused a 15-year-old girl in the cab of his truck before later raping her has been jailed for 12 years.
Alan Simpson, who was living in Chelmsley Wood at the time of the offences, was also ordered by a judge at Warwick Crown Court to register as a sex offender for life.
Simpson of Fosse Walk, Castleford, Yorkshire, had pleaded guilty to two charges of sexual activity with a child and one of raping her.
Prosecutor Sophie Murray said he had groomed the 15-year-old girl, sent images of his genitals and getting her to send him naked pictures of herself.
In the cab of his lorry the 48-year-old showed the girl pornography featuring older men with young women before getting her to touch him and to perform oral sex.
Similar encounters happened on a number of occasions before an incident when he raped her when she was 16.
Miss Murray said: “She was a virgin. She said she didn’t want it to happen. He pinned her down and told her she would like it. She said it was hurting. She began crying, and he stopped.”
After the girl later told her mother what had happened, the police were contacted.
When Simpson was arrested he at first made no comment, but later claimed the girl had made the running by asking him to show her how to perform oral sex.
And he accused her of then threatening to tell people he was a paedophile if he did not pay her.
But Miss Murray pointed out that when officers checked the girl’s phone it still had the messages on it that Simpson had sent asking her for oral sex.
Blondel Thompson, defending, said: “The pre-sentence report does not make good reading, but he doesn’t seek to resile from his pleas.
“He is remorseful. He was the adult and should have known better, but that isn’t really reflected in the report which seems to be blaming the complainant for all of the offences.”
Miss Thompson said that despite that Simpson, who has been in the Army Reserves for 18 years, assisting with recruiting for the past eight years, ‘is ashamed of his behaviour.’
Jailing Simpson, Judge Sylvia de Bertodano told him: “You started a sexual predatory relationship.
“You showed her pornography, and this quickly progressed to getting her to masturbate you and to perform oral sex on you.
“Then you raped her. You pinned her down. She repeatedly refused and was crying. Nevertheless, you continued to force yourself on her.
“Her first experience of having sexual intercourse was being raped by you.
“This sort of behaviour ruins people’s lives, and it has effects on them for years and decades after.”
