A SHOCKING ram-raid on Shirley high street was captured on video – before two police officers were injured.

The footage was filmed by a neighbour and has been sent to us and the police.

A van can be seen reversing at speed into the Nationwide Building Society on Stratford Road with men dressed in black entering after the door and window were breached.

A West Midlands Police spokesperson said: “Two police officers were injured after being called to a report of a burglary in progress at a building society on Stratford Road in Shirley just after midnight this morning (Tuesday, May 21).

“Two transit vans and an Audi car had been used to ram the building at around 12.05am.

“Attempts were made to steal an ATM, before the vans and car drove off toward Streetbrook Road. They were pursued by police, but then stopped.

“A man got out of one of the vans and threw several bricks at the police car, smashing the windscreen.

“One of the vans then rammed the police car at speed, causing minor injuries to the officers.

“All of the suspects then got into the Audi and drove off along Streets Brook Road toward Robin Hood Island.

“The officers were treated for their injuries by paramedics at the scene.
