A BLACK Live Matter anti-racism protest in Shirley yesterday (June 13) passed off peacefully with demonstrators showing their unity.
Liberal Democrat politician Ade Adeyemo tweeted: Good natured #BlackLivesMatter rally today in Shirley. Thanks @SolihullPolice @SolihullCouncil and everyone who made it happen. @LoveSolihull #Solihull #BLM
Green Party representatives were on hand to give out face coverings for those who needed them.
It came amid continuing demonstrations globally since the killing by a US policeman of George Floyd, including in London wheee counter-demonstrating lead to some violence.
Among the counter-demonstrators’ claims in London was that they wanted to protect statues including of Winston Churchill, with protesters elsewhere ripping down figures associated with Britain’s colonial past and slavery.
