Lone cyclist clocks up the miles for charity on 12-hour spin challenge

A LONE cyclist clocked up the miles as he took on a 12-hour charity spin challenge.

Simon Baker hopped on a spin bike from 7am to 7pm to raise awareness to prostate cancer and raise funds for both prostate cancer and Make a Wish Foundation.

Although the 62-year-old took on the challenge alone, he wasn’t without support as loved ones cheered him on from the side-lines to keep spirits high.

He said: “It was brutal as I was truly mentally and physically sapped.

“Yet it was worth it to make a wish come true for a poorly child and to raise awareness to the now most common cancer in England affecting one in eight men.

“If this helps a man get a PSA screening to detect a prostate cancer in the early stages and help save just one life then it was so worthwhile.”

Simon initially set out to raise £1,000.

But thanks to kind-hearted donors he tripled that online alone and had yet to hear the official figure of cash donations made on the day.

This wasn’t the first time Simon had took on a spin challenge.

In 2022 he completed the same event in for Acorns Children’s Hospice.

Simon took on this latest challenge to test himself for another event in June when he will be cycling 850miles from the north to the south of France in ten days for charity.

Previously Simon has cycled from London to Paris for Acorns and completed the Lands End to John O’Groats challenge for Dementia UK in honour of his mum who died from the disease.
