Litter pickers clear 145 bags of rubbish

Solihull Editorial 20th Jan, 2017   0

COMMUNITY litter picking teams cleared more than 145 bags of rubbish from the streets of Olton and Hobs Moat last year.

The Literary Litter Pickers was set up by a group of Olton residents after they became concerned about litter in their area.

With support from councillors, Solihull Council’s Love Solihull programme, and local businesses including McDonalds, London Midland and Toolman, the group set about tackling the litter.

Following the success of the Olton based group, who collected 112 bags of litter since May 2016, a second group began meeting in Hobs Moat in September and have collected more than 33 bags of litter from the local area.

Both groups welcome anyone who would like to help and meet monthly at their local libraries.

The next Literary Litter Pickers will be held in Hobs Moat from 10am to 11am on January 24.

Councillor Tony Dicicco, Cabinet Member for Stronger Communities and Partnerships said: “I was delighted to see the Literary Litter Pickers start up and I am thrilled with the progress they have made.

“Their efforts show how much can be achieved when members of the community work together and I would like to thank everyone who has given up their time to neaten up their neighbourhoods.

“I would encourage anyone who can to get involved.”
