SILHILLIANS are being called on to scour their homes for overdue library books and hand them back – anonymously and without facing a fine.
Throughout January and February, Solihull libraries are holding an amnesty with anonymous drop-off points available at all libraries in the borough.
This means book lovers won’t need to speak to a librarian, they can just drop their overdue books into the library boxes.
Returned items will then be logged back onto the system and replaced on the shelves for other library users to enjoy.
Solihull Council’s cabinet member for Communities and Leisure, Councillor Diane Howell, said: “If you have borrowed books over the last few years, please have a thorough look for forgotten books and other loan items and then return them to any local library.
“We no longer fine people for overdue books, however we will be looking to charge for replacement costs of lost stock after March so please use the drop off points as soon as you can.
“During the pandemic a lot of our books, CDs and DVDs have gone missing. Customers with overdue and lost books have been written to already but we understand it’s been a very difficult time for everyone so we’re giving everyone the chance to use the anonymous drop off boxes.
“Lastly if you or someone you know is struggling to get to a library because of illness or mobility issues then please contact your local library or email Solihull libraries as we may be able to arrange a pick up via our home library service.”
